Earlier we talked about the fact that our industry is changing quickly and that one of the fastest changes really is happening inside of the marketing arena. We are moving quickly from a tradeshow driven industry to a social media evolution market. Below are 4 quick tips to help you as you march your way through the ever changing jungle of social media marketing hunting down your elusive consumer.
to start a two way conversation with our consumers. Yes this will take more of your time. Take the time to listen and then respond and listen again. Build a relationship network.
- 2) Get your team involved: Its starts at the top. Real company buy in will necessitate your boss getting involved. If your boss isn’t convinced, go to this blog post by Michael Hyatt. We are working hard to get all of our back office as well as front personnel involved in all sorts of social media – from Facebook to Twitter to Blogging.
- 3) Be yourself: What should you talk about? Dialog about everything and anything. Be real, be transparent. This is what consumers crave today. A relationship with a real person, not a company. If you just can’t stand the Argentina Soccer Team and think that Diego Maradona cheated by using his hand to score a goal -say so… if you think something is funny -share it, if you are having a tough time and really struggling with something -say that as well. This will help your credibility when you say that you are excited about one of your new products- this is a real person who is not just trying to sell me something.
- 4) Try new things: Be adventurous, stay up with technology and all the changes that we find so quickly hitting us. Try things out. I have already changed my Twitter application for the Blackberry three times. I continue to try new programs, if I liked them I used them and shared them, if not I went on to the next one. But this will allow you to understand the impact and potential uses.
So get out there and be yourself, make some new friends. Your friends will want to talk with you- so start a dialog and get involved today.
Some things in life however refuse to go away. I repeatedly found myself returning because I was bothered about so many people being given information that regularly implied housecleaning was hard.
