It has been a while since I last wrote giving tips for presenters. I was recently asked to share how I prepare for a presentation. So very quickly let me give you 3 quick tips as you prepare for your next presentation. Here they are.
- Know your audience. Get to know who you are speaking to. Do your homework – as in research online, ask questions of the organizers ahead of time.
- When you get to the event site, walk the floor, get to know
the people, ask questions.
- Don’t isolate yourself from the crowd. Both you and the
crowd will benefit from the warmth of knowing each other a bit more.
- Be ready to adapt your message in a moments notice.
- When you get to the event site, walk the floor, get to know
the people, ask questions.
- Prepare for the unexpected. Be ready to do your presentation with or without sound, with or without a computer.
- This also comes with asking the right questions versus
assuming what the equipment will be.
- If you are using a computer / PowerPoint / or audio/video –
test it all well before – get there an hour early to be sure it is working.
- Carry a copy of your presentation on a flash drive with you.
Ensuring you also have the links there as well.
- This also comes with asking the right questions versus
assuming what the equipment will be.
- Concentrate on Quality, not Quantity. It is more important what you say and how you say it versus how long you talk.
- Your audience is smarter than you think they are. Try to
bring something for the smartest person there.
- Don’t waste the audience’s time.
- Give them something to think about and challenge them.
- Read. Do research on-line that morning to be up to date with
the latest information.
- Your audience is smarter than you think they are. Try to
bring something for the smartest person there.
There you are, 3 quick tips for you to use in your next presentation. I hope they help.
